A Major Step Forward for Digital Academic Records

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system has strengthened its integration with DigiLocker, India's national digital document wallet. This update makes it easier than ever for students to access, share, and verify their ABC ID Card without physical paperwork or institutional delays.

Here's a full breakdown of what has changed and how it benefits students across India.

What's New in the ABC–DigiLocker Integration?

1. Instant ABC ID Generation via DigiLocker

Previously, some students experienced delays in receiving their ABC ID after registration. With the updated integration, ABC IDs are now generated almost instantly after a student submits their academic details through DigiLocker. The document appears directly in the "Issued Documents" section.

2. Shareable Digital Document

Students can now generate a shareable link to their ABC ID Card directly from DigiLocker. This is particularly useful when applying to new institutions, scholarship boards, or submitting documents for credit transfers — no need to print or carry physical copies.

3. Aadhaar-Verified Identity Binding

The ABC ID is now more securely bound to a student's Aadhaar-verified identity, reducing the chances of duplicate registrations or fraudulent IDs. Each ABC ID is unique and tied to one individual across all institutions.

4. Mobile App Access

Students using the DigiLocker mobile app (available on Android and iOS) can now access their ABC ID on-the-go. The app also sends notifications for credit updates, document availability, and institutional actions on your account.

Why This Integration Matters

Before this enhanced integration, students often had to visit their institution's administrative office or use multiple portals to manage academic credentials. The unified ABC–DigiLocker experience means:

  • Less paperwork for students and institutions
  • Faster credit transfers between universities
  • Improved document security through Aadhaar binding
  • Better accessibility for students in remote areas via mobile

How to Check if Your ABC ID is in DigiLocker

  1. Open digilocker.gov.in or the DigiLocker app
  2. Log in with your registered mobile number
  3. Navigate to "Issued Documents"
  4. Look for "Academic Bank of Credits — ABC ID"
  5. If it's missing, visit abc.gov.in and re-link your DigiLocker account

Institutions Also Benefit

Universities and colleges can now verify student ABC IDs directly through the DigiLocker institutional verification portal. This speeds up enrollment processes, credit recognition, and academic transcript generation — saving time for both staff and students.

Looking Ahead

The Ministry of Education and UGC continue to expand the ABC ecosystem. Future updates are expected to include direct integration with the National Academic Depository (NAD) and automated credit mapping for courses completed at SWAYAM, NPTEL, and other approved online platforms.
